10.0.3 Update Notes

Some things that might not be immediately obvious. Updated as things come up.

Some notes on FCP X and 7toX.

7toX for Final Cut Pro

Media needs to be online during export from FCP 7 (or 6); during the conversion process (as 7toX checks details from the media) and during import to FCP X.

7toX for Final Cut Pro is expected to work with FCP 6 XML, but it is untested.

Unfortunately Final Cut Express does not export XML so we are unable to update Final Cut Express Projects.

Video Output

Video Output requires new drivers for your hardware. As of today only AJA have a beta of their FCP X output drivers available. Blackmagic Design and Matrox are expected to have betas of their drivers shortly. It’s important to note that these drivers are the first ever to be written to the new CoreMediaIO services on OS X. Previous drivers have all been QuickTime based, so this is all new work, not a simple update to drivers as previous versions were. That’s also why the video output is Lion only: only Lion has the foundations in place for the Core services functions needed, and work couldn’t start on the drivers until Lion was out, and a beta version of FCP X was available for hardware companies to work with.

Purchased 7toX and did test on sequence that used 3 video and 1 audio. Did just fine and was able to relink in FCP X. That process is more complicated that relinking in FCP 7 but once I understood what was happening it did fine. Need a video tutorial for others to learn from. Thanks for that APT.

Also purchased your APT for handling events and works great. Does need to be in APT store as I learned of it from your site.

Have always used and loved your information and do recommend it as I am Apple Retail Store trainer. Thanks Phillip.

Larry would you send me the XML at info @ intelligentassistance.com. Media should relink automatically. We’re working on getting Event Manager X into the App Store, but we’re not sure if it will qualify. The “sandboxing” requirements for the app store give us some concern.
