Hey Hollywood, forget SOPA, ACTA, TPP, and look to Netflix for a glimse of your future. http://t.co/AaZMiXbJ
Instead of pushing for ever-more draconian laws in the US and beyond, instead, how about the studio look to what is working: Netflix.
Every few months, Hollywood is making yet another push for stronger copyright laws and more restrictive trade agreements. First, there were SOPA, PIPA and ACTA, and now there isthe Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). But new data from Ericsson’s ConsumerLab research unit shows that Hollywood may have gotten it all backwards. The most successful weapon in the fight against piracy aren’t new laws, but better services.
Really? You think? This is exactly what progressive thinkers have been saying; it’s a business model problem, not a “piracy” problem.
Case in point: Less than 15 percent of U.S.-based online video viewers use file sharing for their movies and TV show fix, according to Ericsson’s TV & Video Consumer Trend Report 2012 (PDF). Netflix on the other hand is used by around 55 percent. Hulu, websites of TV networks, iTunes and Amazon’s VOD offering are also more popular than piracy.
The article continues on comparing those stats with countries with little or no legal distribution options.

I want to watch content legally, I want to watch high quality content, but as the article says, if Fox, as an example, delays distributing their content, I’m going to go to other sources. I’d be willing to bet that most people don’t want watch shows or programs illegally simply to “stick it to the man”, but because the content isn’t distributed and available.
Exactly. It’s been identified that this is a supply problem/aka business model problem, that the studios and networks do not seem to want to address. They want to continue with the superprofits of the past.
